Congratulations on your Botox or Dysport treatment with Dr. Avaliani. Proper aftercare ensures optimal results and a smooth recovery. While there is virtually no downtime, following these simple guidelines will help your neuromodulator settle properly and deliver the best possible outcome. This guide covers everything you need to know from the moment you leave our office.
First 4 Hours
Avoid lying flat, strenuous exercise, hot yoga, saunas, and steam rooms. Remain upright to prevent the product from migrating away from the targeted muscles
First 24 Hours
Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to treated areas. Mild redness, small bumps, and minor tenderness at injection sites are normal and resolve within 30 minutes
Days 3–7
You may notice the product beginning to take effect. Forehead treatments may cause a mild pulling sensation or headache-like feeling as muscles relax — this is normal and resolves on its own
Days 7–14
Full results develop over this period. If treating hyperhidrosis, you will notice decreasing sweat odor and drier underarms. Schedule your 2-week follow-up during this time
Months 3–4
Results typically last 3–4 months. Return when approximately 75% of muscle activity returns — not when it fully wears off. Consistent maintenance can extend duration to 6–8 months over time

What to Expect After Treatment
Your Botox or Dysport treatment will begin taking effect within 24–48 hours, with full results visible in 7–14 days. During this time, you may notice gradual relaxation of the treated muscles. For upper face treatments, lines and wrinkles will progressively soften. Forehead treatments may cause a temporary pulling sensation as muscles adjust — this is perfectly normal.
Side effects are minimal and temporary. Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness at injection sites resolve within 30 minutes. Eyelid swelling occurs in less than 2% of cases and resolves within one day — apply ice packs if needed. Lid ptosis (slight eyelid drooping) is rare (less than 3%), temporary, and treatable with prescribed eye drops.
Activity Restrictions
Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal results:
Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that cause excessive sweating for 24 hours after treatment
Do not lie flat or bend forward for 4 hours — remain upright to keep the product in place
Avoid hot yoga, saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs for 24 hours
Do not rub, massage, or apply firm pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours to minimize bruising risk — resume all other normal activities immediately
Areas Treated & Specific Care
Upper Face (Forehead / Glabella / Crow’s Feet)
You will notice progressive softening of lines over 7–14 days. Minor redness at injection sites resolves within 30 minutes. Avoid touching the area. Results last 3–4 months.
Forehead Treatment
A mild pulling sensation or headache-like feeling may occur as the frontalis muscle relaxes while you involuntarily try to raise your eyebrows. This is normal and resolves within a few days.
Jawline / Masseter
Jaw slimming results develop gradually over 2–6 weeks as the masseter muscle atrophies. You may notice subtle changes in your bite strength initially — this is normal and adjusts over time.
Neck Bands
Neck treatments take 7–14 days for full effect. Avoid wearing tight necklaces or scarves for 24 hours. The platysmal bands will progressively smooth for a more refined neck appearance.
Hyperhidrosis (Sweating)
Results begin within 2–5 days. You will notice decreasing sweat odor and progressively drier underarms/palms. Full effect in 2 weeks. Duration: 6–12 months. Contact the office when sweating returns.
Follow-Up Appointment
Your 2-week follow-up is essential and included in your treatment cost. Dr. Avaliani will assess your results and provide complimentary touch-up injections if needed. Before/after photos will be taken for your records.
