Your dermal filler treatment with Dr. Avaliani will continue to improve over the coming days and weeks. While results are visible immediately, the filler needs time to settle and integrate into your tissue. Following these aftercare guidelines ensures the best possible outcome and helps your results last as long as possible.
First 24 Hours
Avoid touching, pressing, or massaging the treated area. No makeup application for 24 hours. Sleep on your back, not face-down. Mild swelling and redness are normal and expected
Days 1–3
Swelling peaks on the morning after treatment, then gradually subsides. Apply ice gently (10–15 minutes at a time) without pressing on the filler. Mild soreness is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief
Days 3–7
Swelling and tenderness continue to resolve. Small bumps or firmness under the skin are normal and smooth out as the filler settles. Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure
Weeks 1–2
The filler fully integrates into the tissue. Any remaining lumps or asymmetry resolves. Attend your 2-week follow-up for assessment, photos, and any needed adjustments
Long-Term
Filler results last 6 months to 2+ years depending on the product and treatment area. Maintain results with periodic touch-ups as recommended by Dr. Avaliani

What to Expect After Dermal Filler
Dermal filler results are visible immediately, but your final result takes 1–2 weeks to fully develop as swelling resolves and the filler settles into position. Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness at injection sites are normal and expected. The degree of swelling varies by treatment area — lips tend to swell more than cheeks, for example.
Small bumps or firmness under the skin are normal in the first 1–2 weeks and resolve on their own as the filler integrates into your tissue. Dr. Avaliani can address any persistent bumps at your 2-week follow-up. All hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Juvéderm) are fully reversible with hyaluronidase if needed.
General Post-Filler Guidelines
Follow these guidelines for all filler treatments:
Do not touch, rub, or massage the treated area for 24–48 hours — this prevents filler migration
Apply ice gently (10–15 minutes at a time, wrapped in cloth) without pressing firmly on the injection area
Avoid strenuous exercise, hot yoga, saunas, and excessive heat for 48 hours
Sleep on your back for the first night to avoid pressure on the treated area
Avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol for 24 hours to minimize bruising
Area-Specific Aftercare
Cheek Augmentation
Mild facial swelling is common the morning after treatment. Soreness over the cheekbones resolves within 3–5 days. Do not press or rub the cheeks. Small bumps under the skin disappear within 1–2 weeks. Regular face washing and skincare are fine.
Lip Augmentation
Expect noticeable lip swelling the next morning — it subsides by evening. Ice frequently (10–15 minutes, twice hourly). Lips may feel heavy with temporary difficulty speaking or eating for 1–2 days. Lip moisturizers OK immediately, no lipstick for 24 hours.
Volume Loss
Chin & Nose Augmentation — Ice gently without applying pressure to prevent filler migration. Do not sleep face-down. Mild swelling is possible but uncommon. Subtle puffiness around the eyes after nose work resolves within 24 hours.
Ear Lobe Rejuvenation
Mild swelling is expected and normal. Avoid heavy jewelry immediately. Sleep on your back, not on your sides. No large or clip-on earrings during the settling period. Full settling occurs within 1–2 weeks.
Hand Rejuvenation
Expect mild to moderate hand swelling for 24–48 hours. Apply ice 5–10 minutes every 30 minutes. Regular moisturizer can be applied the same evening. Temporary stiffness when making fists is normal and resolves within 1–2 weeks.
Under Eye / Tear Trough
The under-eye area is delicate and may swell or bruise more than other areas. Avoid rubbing the eyes. Sleep elevated for the first 1–2 nights. Bruising, if present, resolves within 7–10 days. Be patient — under-eye filler can take 2 weeks to show final results.
